Friends of Pine Ridge Reservation- Pine Ridge is a Native American Community with about a 95% poverty level, and
an 80% or so unemployment rate. There are simply no jobs for hundreds of miles to be had, and many families live in substandard conditions with overcrowding (16-20 people in one small house or trailer), many have little or no insulation, broken or nonexistent doors and windows and the temperatures often drop to -30 farenheit in the winter! The average income on Pine Ridge is about $6000 a year; The average income for the United States is about $21,000 a year. The people of Pine Ridge are desperate for help with non perishable foods, crocheted and knitted items for bitter winters and anything else you can think of. Please visit the Pine Ridge site to find out how you can help. You may also visit or join http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FriendsofPineRidgeReservation.
